After you have confirmed your spot, you will be assigned a designated SBA Internship Experience Manager who will guide you through the duration of your internship experience. Your Internship Experience Manager will match you with a host company based on your track preference.
You are all set for your virtual international experience!
In order to be better prepared for your micro-internship, keep in mind the following tips:
Interns will have an opportunity to experience a distinctive company culture. Interns will be exposed to a fast-paced culture that welcomes creativity and out-of-the-box ideas. Avoid the bureaucracy and formality that is embedded in corporate culture.
Interns will witness the lasting impact they make during their internship. In start-up companies, contributions receive immediate feedback and are oftentimes implemented early on!
Interns will learn to adapt to daily uncertainty and change. The ambiguity within startup companies allows interns to learn how to adapt to change and tackle issues that arise head-on.
Interns will make their mark at global start-ups and SMEs, while engaging with their team members on projects that will help move the company's vision and mission move forward.

Virtual micro-internships are short-term, 2-to-4-week, project-based assignments, where interns have an opportunity to apply their experiences and skills at global start-up or sustainability focused companies from anywhere! Interns will collaborate with team members to resolve real-life business issues. Micro-internships range between 10 to 40 hours per week, depending on the student’s preference.
After submitting an application, an SBA team member will reach out to the applicant for a short interview to learn more about their micro-internship goals and better understand their motivations for wanting to do a micro-internship. Once a host company partner has pre-screened their resume/CV, an Internship Experience Manager will set-up a company interview. The applicant will have the opportunity to ask their future host company any questions about their organization.
The process typically takes between 3 to 4 weeks.
Although micro-internships are not paid positions, our team works with interns from the time they start their application through to the completion of their internship to ensure that they have a meaningful experience that will help them stand out in future job searches.
Do interns require a visa since they will be working with a start-up or sustainability focused company abroad?
No, interns will not be required to apply for a visa to complete this program.
If an intern is interested in receiving academic credit, they should refer to their academic advisor or education abroad office to determine if our micro-internship offerings meet their academic requirements. If there are any questions, applicants can discuss this with an SBA team member during their initial interview.
